Cole Fossat pitched seven strong innings of shutout ball Tuesday against Juab. The Dinos won the Region 12 game 8-0.
Fossat struck out 14 en route to his fourth win. He also went 3-4 at the plate.
Carbon scored half of its runs in the first two innings, and scored its final run on a squeeze play as Blake Bean laid down a clean bunt to score Domonic Rondinelli who was in the process of stealing home. Rondinelli and Jarod Lessar combined to go 6-7 on the afternoon.
“If we can score eight runs, we can beat anybody,” said head coach Brett Bennett. “We have the pitching. We play like that we can win a lot of games.”
Carbon needs to sweep a doubleheader from Juab Thursday in Price and a little help from Richfield to win the Region 12 title. Payson beat Richfield on Tuesday 3-2 in extra innings to keep its lead at one game ahead of the Dinos. The Lions and Wildcats will hook up again Thursday for a doubleheader in Payson. If Richfield Beats Payson in one of those games, and Carbon sweeps Juab, the Dinos will take the regular season title.
Action begins at 3 p.m. Thursday at Carbon High School.
