The Utah Foster Care Foundation sponsored a March For Kids walk on Friday afternoon to kickoff Foster Care Awareness Month. Following the walk, over 100 flags were placed at the Price Peace Gardens to symbolize each local child who is currently part of the foster care program.
During a brief ceremony, Janarie Cammans was named Foster Care Mom of the Year. Cammans and her husband Bret have been licensed foster parents for three years and have fostered 25 placements during that time.
According to Utah Foster Care representative Kobi Prettyman, the Cammans are willing to take children in a variety of circumstances from those whose parents are working to get them home, those who are awaiting placement with kin and those who need a place to stay for a few days.
“They have worked with the parents of the children they care for as well and have a genuine concern for the parents and children who are placed in their home,” Prettyman explained. “Janarie also helps with our foster parent cluster group to provide support and coordinate training for foster families in our area.”
Janarie explained that she would not be able to accomplish as much if she did not have the help and support of her family.
