Eighth and ninth grade family and consumer science (FACS) students participated in the annual Mont Harmon Junior High dutch oven cookoff on Monday morning. Traditionally, only ninth grade students have participated in the event, however, since current eighth grade students will move on to Carbon High next year, they were allowed to participate in the competition.
Students prepared recipes in dutch ovens provided by Bill and Toni Thayn, who also offered tips and assisted students with the cooking process. After each dish was finished, students served samples to a panel of judges.
Hot wings smothered in barbecue sauce and Pepsi won top honors in the main dish category while a peach blueberry cobbler won the dessert competition. Winners received a prize pack and cash award.
