Carbon Rec will host a series of photography classes that will kick-off June 13 with an introductory class taught by Layne Miller.
This class will be about the basics of photography, with emphasis on composition and how composition rules can dramatically improve your photos. Although billed as an introductory class, everyone can benefit from Layne’s presentation. It’s a great refresher for people who have been doing photography for awhile. At the end of the class on the 13th students will be given assignments to do during the following week. A second class will be held June 20 for students to show their results.
The photography series will continue July 6, 9, and 12 with a class on scenic photography, with an emphasis on macro (close up) images, nature photography, and basic photo editing. July 9 will be an outing to a mountain setting to photograph wildflowers and anything else we find along the way. Juanita McEvoy and Heath Petty will teach this series.
In August Rich Erwin will teach a class on “Night Sky Photography.” There are plans to continue the classes into the fall, but topics are pending. Recreation Director Steve Christensen said one class will be on wildlife photography, but those dates haven’t yet been set.
All of the classes are free, thanks to the volunteer instructors. All will lead up to the “Colors of Autumn” photography workshop Oct. 7-9. Anyone who teaches one of the free classes will be able to attend the workshop free of charge. Anyone who participates in the classes may attend for half price. The Colors of Autumn will include tours of Range Creek, the San Rafael Swell, and the Scofield-Eccles Scenic Byway.
The Carbon Rec photography group will meet June 13 at 5:30. The introductory class will begin at 6. Everyone is always welcome, from beginners to pros. Call 435-636-3702 for more information or if you would like to volunteer to teach one of the upcoming classes.
