When the Carbon and Emery food banks expressed a shortage of turkeys this holiday season, local businesses and community members rallied to help each client at the food banks to have an enjoyable meal this Thanksgiving.
According to Southeastern Utah Association of Local Governments (SEUALG) Community Service Program Manager Geri Gamber, a flood of help has come to the food banks. So far, Price Auto Group, Big-O Tires and Pierce Oil have donated funds to purchase turkeys for the local food banks. Additionally, Tony Basso GM will donate two turkeys for each GM car sold in the month of November. Carbon County Recreation also extended their support by donating an eight man river trip. Each person who donates a turkey to the Carbon or Emery food bank will be entered into a drawing for the river trip.
Carbon High School has also joined to help the members of the community this Thanksgiving. Members of Today’s Service Leaders at the school along with principal Bruce Bean have agreed to a fundraiser to earn money for turkeys. The fundraiser will allow students to donate $5 for every tardy and $25 for each U citizenship grade. All funds raised will be donated to the Carbon and Emery food banks. To round out the fundraiser, the school will donate all proceeds from the school’s basketball game on Nov. 21.
Turkeys and trimmings for Thanksgiving dinner donations can be made to the Carbon County Food Bank located at 75 East 400 South in Price and at Emery County Food Bank at 40 South Center Street in Castle Dale.
