USU Eastern Volleyball Falls Short at Region Tournament

The Golden Eagles traveled to the College of Southern Idaho to participate in the annual region tournament last weekend. The top two finishers of the tournament earned bids to the NJCAA National Tournament.

USU Eastern took on North Idaho College for their first match up of the tournament on Friday afternoon. The Lady Eagles fell short, losing the match in four sets, 26-24, 19-25, 16-25 and 11-25, and dropping out of the tournament in the first round. North Idaho went on to face the College of Southern Idaho and dropped the match in three sets.

Melissa Judd of USU Eastern posted a double-double in the match, earning 10 kills and 12 digs. Carly Dalton was the kill leader for the Lady Eagles, posting 11 kills followed by Judd with 10. Mason Steele paced the offense, contributing 36 assists on the night. North Idaho was led by Brittany Aldridge, who posted 18 kills for the Cardinals.

The defense was led by libero Koralys Gonzalez, who had 17 digs, followed by teammates Judd and Chloe Brooks, who contributed 12 and 10 digs, respectively.

CSI won the region 18 championship game on Saturday, defeating Salt Lake Community College in four sets. Both teams earned a bid to the NJCAA National Tournament Nov. 20-22.
