Division of Wildlife Resources Press Release
Hunters may apply beginning Oct. 29 for the 2014 sportsman permits, Utah’s most prized big game hunting permit.
Only Utah residents can apply for a sportsman permit. One permit is offered for each of the following species: Desert bighorn ram, Rocky Mountain bighorn ram, buck deer, buck pronghorn, bull elk, bull moose, hunter’s choice bison and hunter’s choice Rocky Mountain goat.
Sportsman permits are also offered for three species that are not big game including black bear, cougar and wild turkey.
Anyone who draws a sportsman permit, must be aware that hunting dates may vary. But in most cases, the dates are longer than the regular season. Permit holders can also hunt on almost any unit in Utah that is open to hunting the species the permit is good for.
Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Wildlife Licensing Coordinator, Judi Tutorow says that sportsman permits are highly prized items. “If you’re one of the lucky hunters who draws one,” she says, “you’ll have plenty of days and plenty of areas to hunt.”
Hunters can apply for a sportsman permit starting Oct. 29 at www.wildlife.utah.gov. Applications must be submitted no later than 11 p.m. on Nov. 19.
Draw results will be posted by Nov. 27. Anyone who draws a permit will also receive a confirmation letter in the mail.
