Locals know that Southeastern Utah offers some of the most spectacular and remote scenery in the country. In an effort to help take advantage of this resource, the San Rafael Back Country Horsemen will offer a free horse packing workshop on March 26 at the Emery County Recreation Building.
The San Rafael Back Country horsemen invite everyone to come, from experienced packers, whom they invite to share their knowledge of packing, to those that have never packed before. Members will provide demonstrations of packing, using barrels on packing stands, and will encourage attendees to try it on their own. Leave No Trace camping techniques will also be demonstrated.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, March 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 75 South 400 East in Castle Dale.В For additional information, call Rod Player at 653-2440, Wayne Luddington at 472-8249, or Wayne Justice at 749-1814.
The organization is comprised of horse enthusiasts from both Carbon and Emery County, known for their work in preserving trails in the area. Their state website, www.bchu.com, describes them as being, “An organization of men and women concerned about sustained equestrian access and proper use on our public lands.”
