A rare Saturday game saw Emery host Canyon View. Emery’s sophomore guards, Wade Stilson and Luke Justice, had an excellent first half with 12 and 10 points, respectively. The Spartans controlled the half and went into the break with a 10-point advantage, 27-17.

If we learned anything from Friday’s game between Canyon View and Carbon, however, it is that the Falcons will not go away. Canyon View began its comeback in the third, but Emery responded well and ran its lead up to 12.

Then came the Falcons in full force to start the fourth. Canyon View scored 20 points in the final quarter, including seven from Jace Farrow and Skylar Hignite. The Falcons tied the game in the final minute, putting the home crowd on the edge of its seats. Brett Rasmussen came alive in the second half, scoring all 12 of his points, none bigger than the game winner on a power lay-in.

Canyon View found a good look at the buzzer, but the three-point attempt was off the mark, giving Emery the 54-52 victory. Stilson finished with 17 points while Justice ended with 14. Along with Rasmussen’s 12 points, he also recorded a team-high seven rebounds. The win jumbles up the region as Richfield is up one game (2-0) over Canyon View, Carbon and Emery (all 1-1).

To add even more to the fire, rivalry week has arrived for the Spartans (4-10, 1-1) as they head to Price on Friday to take on the Dinos (5-8, 1-1). Catch all the action live on ETV Channel 10 and online at etvnews.com/livesports.
