With a new location obtained by the Boys and Girls Club of Carbon County late last year, the club was in need of many items to fill the building and promote education within the club. Donations from local businesses and private entities have been key to the clubs success.
At the beginning of the year, the club completed a technology center. Computers were donated by Emery Telcom while screens were provided by the Kiwanis Club. The computers are an important addition to the club that have been beneficial to club members.
“The kids use the computers to do their homework after school,” said club director Josie Luke. “One kid actually has been using a computer to complete his driver’s ed course. Then sometimes, if they have some free time, they play games on them.”
Emery Telcom director of marketing Barbara Rasmussen explained that the company donated 12 computers to the Boys and Girls Club of Carbon County. With approximately 12-15 children visiting the club each day after school, there are plenty of computers to ensure that each child has resources available to them to complete school assignments.
Luke concluded with stating the club will be having a summer program this year. For more information on the program and its activities, contact the club at (435) 637-6066.
