There are many organizations, groups and businesses in Castle Country that strive to ensure that, as a community, the area is a united front.
This was proven once more at the Carbon County Commission meeting that took place on Tuesday evening when there was a presentation to recognize members and staff of the local Boys & Girls Club for their hard work and participation in the club improvement.
Danette Moynier, Chair of the CARE Coalition, and Layne Miller spoke on this item. Moynier stated that they were excited to show appreciation to those involved. Recently, they were awarded the Social Development Strategy Grant, which gives those that are awarded the opportunity to assist youth and give them opportunities to use their skills.
Children and teens that attend the Boys & Girls Club worked with adult volunteers and other members of the community to improve the outside area of the club. Old paint was removed, new paint was applied and an outdoor garden area was re-conditioned. Also added were benches, a basketball hoop, picnic tables and more.
According to Layne Miller, the project lasted around seven hours.
“They got an awful lot done and we’re thrilled that we got the grant; we’re thrilled that everybody worked together,” Miller stated.
The children and teens that participated were then awarded certificates and a special treat from Moynier and Miller. Craig Povey also spoke on this after being awarded with artwork that the children and teens from the club had put together for him.
“This is perfect, I got chills just being able to be a part of this,” Povey stated.
To end the presentation, Commissioner Jake Mellor spoke as well, commending organizations such as the CARE Coalition that strive to improve the lives of some of the children and help give them a brighter future.
“This is the type of organization that really helps our community,” Mellor stated.
