Fifth grade students at Bruin Point Elementary were honored at a DARE graduation on Wednesday.
The Drug Abuse Resistance Education program began in the 1980s and is geared toward educating youth on how to avoid potentially dangerous situations and the risks of using drugs and alcohol. Students that participate in the program are taught a course by local law enforcement officers and sign a pledge to resist drugs and violence.
Officer Sam Leonard taught the course to fifth grade students at Bruin Point and honored their hard work at the graduation ceremony.
