Since the 1970s, when Castleview Hospital’s physical therapy took place in a modular trainers, residents of Carbon and Emery counties have had the opportunity to improve their physical abilities that have been impaired due to any type of ailment.
Fast forward more than 20 years and Castleview Hospital found a permanent home for its physical therapy services in the form of the Jeff Manley Wellness Center in Price. The center has continued to grow throughout the years, offering a rehab program for patients as well as a wellness program for the community.
“When I first came in 2001, we had three therapists,” said, Brian Powell the center’s rehab director. “Over the years, we have grown to where we have six full time PTs, two full-time OTs and one full-time speech therapist.”
Those therapists include Paul Smith, DPT; Jason Barney, DPT; Matt Holt DPT; Clayton Taylor, DPT; Brian Powell DPT; Lee Nielsen, MSPT; Johnny Downard, OTR/L; Andrew Jackson, OTR/L; and Taylor Greenhalgh, MS, CCC-SLP.
With a complete teamed of skilled professionals, the Jeff Manley Wellness Center offers one-on-one rehabilitation services to help referred patients with any rehabilitation need.
“We see people with any type of ailment that affects their physical abilities,” Powell said. This includes rehabilitation for stroke, traumatic brain injury, total joint replacement, rotator cuff repairs, arthritis, back issues, wounds and more. Weakness due to declined health can also be addressed.
Following a referral from a doctor, patients will receive personalized treatment from the team at the center. Under Castleview Hospital’s umbrella, most insurance plans are accepted for physical therapy services.
“We also work with people that are self pay,” Powell explained. “If a patient does not have insurance or any way to get the care they need, we will work with them.”
The team at the center also provides services for student athletes that suffer injuries. For over 10 years, physical therapists have offered three visits for free. After the three visits, it will be determined if further treatment is needed to assist the athlete’s rehabilitation.
In addition to a skilled outpatient rehab, the wellness center offers to the public a full-fledged gym that includes free weights, machines, cardio equipment and rehab size pool. The indoor pool and hot tub maintain a temperature of 94° and 104°, respectively, which is ideal for arthritic joints and decreased weight bearing. Gym use is open to the public at daily ($3), monthly ($35) or yearly ($130) rates.
Massage therapists are on staff to meet patients’ needs, both therapeutic and wellness related. Massages are offered at the rate of $25 for 30 minutes or $50 for 60 minutes. Personal trainers are also on hand to provides services at the rate of $25 per hour.
The Jeff Manley Wellness Center, located at 284 North Hospital Drive in Price, is open Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the pool closed from 12 to 1 p.m. for cleaning.
