Larry Blanc is the owner of Larry’s Boat and Aircraft Repair in Wellington. In 1977, the only retail boat dealer in the area had closed its doors, leaving behind boat owners with no place to take their boats for repair and maintenance. That is when Blanc decided to open a repair shop of his own to offer maintenance to local boat owners.
Blanc started working on motorcycles and ATVs at a dealership in Helper in 1978. In 1986, he went to work at a boat dealership in Helper. In 1989, he took three years off to attend aircraft maintenance school in Denver. He came back and worked for the local airport, maintaining a life flight aircraft. From that point on, it has been boats and aircraft.
Larry’s Boat and Aircraft Repair is up to date on the latest computer systems to repair newer boats as well as old with 28 years of experience in all forms of boat repair, from minor tune-ups to major overhauls. The business also does fiberglass and gel coat works as well. They can repair all makes and models of boats including sterndrive, v-drive, outboards (large and small), jet boats, large cruisers, ski boats, bass boats and just about anything that floats.
Over the years, Blanc has been asked to work on motorcycles or ATVs. Now, because of the increase in ATV sales, he gets more calls to do repair on ATVs. With this increase, he has decided to expand into repairing ATVs, starting the first of September.
“Being a small shop, we are able to take care of customers and work with them one on one and get their boats back to them faster than larger shops with lots of backlog,” Blanc said. “You don’t have to travel over the hill to get your boats repaired and we also work on older boats that a lot of shops will no longer work on.”
