Carbon and Emery Both Pick Cruz, Sanders After Caucus Elections

Both Carbon and Emery counties similarly picked Texas Senator Ted Cruz and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders after caucus results were tallied from yesterday’s meetings. In both counties, a combined 2,065 votes were collected, 1,682 from Republicans and just 383 from Democrats.

Republican and Democrat frontrunners Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton both finished in second place.

In Emery County, Cruz smashed Trump by a resounding margin, 64.63% to 22.87% (455 votes to 161). Ohio Governor John Kasich was a distant third with 88 votes (12.5%). Similarly on the Democrat side, Sanders collected 66 votes for 65.35%. Clinton garnered just 26 votes (25.74%).

More voters cast ballots for Trump in Carbon County, although Cruz distanced himself by a 595 to 293 margin over the billionaire, winning 60.84%. Kasich again finished in third place with 9.2% or 90 votes. Bernie beat Clinton by a comfortable 235-128 margin (61.5% to 33.5%).

Statewide, Cruz took home a huge victory with 118,021 votes (69.14%) to Kasich’s 28,818 (16.88%), who came in second. Trump finished in third with 23,858 (13.98%) votes. Sanders won by a resounding margin with 79.14% (43,112) of the vote, compared to just 20.38% (11,100) from Clinton.
