By Carbon County Sheriff’s Office Jeff Wood
I would like to start off this week’s message by thanking the North Springs Gun Range and the CASL Shooting League for hosting the Zombie Shoot at the gun range last weekend. This is an awesome event and a lot of fun to participate in. I am already looking forward to next year’s Zombie Shoot.
The sheriff’s office is moving to the future. We received our grant to upgrade our body armor and have begun issuing new vests to the deputies that either did not have one or their body armor was expiring. We are still waiting to see if we received the grants for body cameras as well as awaiting the results of our School Resource Officer grants.
I have been talking about teen drivers lately in my radio addresses. I want to remind everyone of the five to drive teen safety campaign. It brings up five good topics to discuss with your teen driver. The topics are no cell phone use or texting while driving, no extra passengers, no speeding, no alcohol and never drive without a seat belt. I think these are good topics to discuss with our teen drivers and areas that are often taken for granted.
I would like to remind everyone to have their house numbers and address’s visible on their home. Seconds count in emergency situations and having an address that is easily seen can save time to emergency responders.
I would like to assure everyone that our local law enforcement team is strong, trustworthy and dedicated to the good citizens of Carbon County.
On a fun note, the sheriff’s deputies have been given the opportunity to support their favorite football teams and wear their favorite team’s hat as part of our uniform during the NFL season. We feel this will be a good way for the public to interact with our deputies as football often brings opportunities for discussion.
I am proud to be part of this community and honored to be in the position of sheriff. We truly live in a great place.
