Through the positive action program, Wellington Elementary hosts a character assembly each month, during which two students from each classroom are recognized with a Warrior Award for excellent behavior in school. These assemblies usually take place during the first Monday of the month. Parents are encouraged to attend and support their children.
Along with the Warrior Award that is given for excellent behavior in school, Kudos awards are given. Teachers nominate students that have done something noticeable in the classroom and students are awarded with a certificate and a pencil. Perfect attendance by students is also awarded at Wellington Elementary with treats.
Classes are encouraged to have perfect attendance. Anytime a classroom has every student attending, it earns a letter toward spelling out “Perfect Attendance.” When a class completely spells the two words, it is awarded an inter-class party. The first party featured root beer floats, the second was a popcorn party and the third had a game activity and treats.
Stacey Basinger, Wellington Elementary principal, spoke of how Carbon Emery Telcom’s positive action program has helped fund the Warrior Awards as well as the perfect attendance rewards. Basinger stated that the money is spent 100% on the students.
“We 100% use those funds that are donated by Carbon Emery Telcom to provide the different prizes, treats and rewards to our students. It certainly makes those activities a lot more fun for the kids,” she said.
Carbon Emery Telcom’s Positive Action program donates $100 per month to any school in its service area. To apply, schools can send a letter requesting to be included in the program. The letter must explain the school’s use of the money that promotes positive action throughout the school.
