The Region 12 track meet was held at Carbon High Wednesday and Thursday. Coach Jimmy Jewkes was pleased with the athletes that stepped up and hit their marks during the final state qualifying event.
On Wednesday, both Rachel Goodrich and Garret Marsing took second in their respective mile runs. Both qualified to head to the state meet in the event. Marsing also took second in both the 800 and the two-mile run on Thursday.
Jewkes was also very excited that three Carbon girl’s high jumpers made the cut. Kayleigh Potts had already made the cut in an earlier meet. On the final days, both Jade Moynier and Abbie Powell were able to clear the bar and make it into the finals, assuring them a shot at state. Moynier cleared 4’11” and Powell was able to post a personal best at 5’1”.
Dallen Quinton took fourth in the 100 meters to secure a state berth. The girl’s medley team also secured a spot for the state meet with its finish on Wednesday. The 4×400 girl’s team was beaten out by a lean for the fourth and final qualifying slot after a gutsy performance by Diana Olsen who closed a huge gap.
Several of the team qualified for events in previous meets as well. The state meet will be held at BYU on May 17-18.
