While new businesses are in the works to call Helper’s Main Street home, existing businesses are also taking a slice of the renovating pie. This can be seen at one of the constants in Helper: Carbon Medical Service.
Carbon Medical Service has been offering a clinic setting in Helper for years as providers and staff work to serve patients. The scope of this work has broadened as the Helper Clinic finished an expansion as well as a pharmaceutical additional in March.
The work began with the purchase of a neighboring building, which now features additional exam rooms and a fully-stocked pharmacy. Exam space has nearly doubled with the renovation, allowing more patients to be seen each day. The addition of the pharmacy allows patients to go directly from an exam to having their prescriptions filled in only a few steps.
“We have anywhere from three to four providers full time in Helper now,” said Mimi Trujillo, Carbon Medical’s Finance Director. “We offer a sliding fee. We see uninsured, underinsured and insured patients.”
While anyone can use the pharmacy with a prescription from a provider, patients that are seen at Carbon Medical Service are eligible for sliding scale fee for prescriptions.
The new pharmacy is open from 9 a..m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday with lunch from 12 to 1:30 p.m. as well as Thursday afternoons from 1:30 to 6 p.m. Patients are welcome to the expanded Helper Clinic from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
