Students from Carbon School District recently competed in a regional science fair at Southern Utah University. Students as far north as Helper and as far south as St. George participated. Each student who participated had to compete in their district science fair and receive a recommendation from the judges to compete in the regional fair.
“Each year, Carbon School District sends approximately 50 students,” said Doug Morris, science teacher at Carbon High. Morris also explained that many students competed at this year’s regional fair and succeeded.
The following students placed first in their categories: Luke Hansen, Dallen Twedell, Breanna Nielsen (Carbon High); Sofia Crompton, Emily Jesperson, Jack Christensen, Ethan Daniels, Parker Humes (Mont Harmon); Tyler Yoklavich (Helper).
These students placed second: Luke Hansen, Dallen Twedell, Mercedez Clifford, Taylor Gagon (Carbon High); Sofia Crompton, Natale Van Dyke, Torie Hammack, Jacob Williams, Emma Christensen (Mont Harmon); Alexandra Cartwright, Kylie Kranendonk, Patrick Kardelis (Helper).
These students placed third: Dalton Anderson, James Bryner (Mont Harmon); Luke Hansen, Robert James Llewelyn and Misael Sanchez (Carbon High).
Several students, including Tyler Yoklavich, Jack Christensen, Kaylie Sharp, Luke Hansen, Vincent Anella, Sofia Crompton and Dallen Twedell, received special awards.
Some received an invitation to the Broadcom Master’s Competition: Sofia Crompton, Tyler Yoklavich, Jack Christensen, Ethan Daniels, Parker Humes (Mont Harmon); Emily Jesperson (Helper).
