Carbon Seniors Recognized at Home Meet

Swimmers from Carbon dominated against Grand and Delta at their home meet on Saturday, taking first overall. During the meet, Carbon’s senior swimmers were recognized.

The meet started off strong in the boys’ and girls’ 200 yard medley relay. Emily Jespersen, Nicole Swasey, Sofia Crompton and Ashlin Baker brought home the first of many wins with a time of 2:16.44. The boys took second place shortly after with Tyson Swasey, Kinnon Lyman, Rylan Chamberlain and Jerron Stead teaming up to get a time of 2:00.06.

The 200 yard IM was stellar for Carbon swimmers with Kacee Barrett swimming a 2:43.29 for a second place finish and Ashlin Baker following right behind her for third place. Senior Tyson Swasey took first for the boys in the event with a time of 2:26.19.

Girls and boys also swam their best in the 100 butterfly. Barrett took first for the girls, Crompton took second and senior Abby Layton took third. Rylan Chamberlain followed with a first place win for the boys and a time of 1:02.71 with Matthew Torres coming in with a time of 1:22.99 for a fifth place finish.

During the break, the senior swimmers and their parents were invited to meet to recognize the 2018 seniors. This year’s seniors are Abby Layton, Jacob Torres, Kelsey Manual, Makayla Moynier, Taycie Davis, Rylan Chamberlain, Shannon Baker, Tyson Swasey, Tyler Vasquez, Dallen Twedell and Hannah Torgerson.

Nicole Swasey came back strong after the break, taking first in the girls’ 500 free with a time of 7:06.80. Josh Rasmussen and Patrick Kardelis swam in the same event to earn sixth and seventh place for the Dinos.

Megan Swasey and Taycie Davis had great times in the girls’ 100 backstroke as Swasey took second place with a time of 1:10.22. Davis took third with a time of 1:29.50 while Natale VanDyke came in shortly after in fifth place.

The Dinos took one last shot for points in the 400 free relay, teaming up Emily Jespersen, Kacee Barrett, Shannon Baker and Megan Swasey for the girls. The team came in first with a time of 14:24.08. Natale VanDyke, Abby Layton, Taycie Davis and Britlie Sharp came together for a third place finish for the Dinos girls’ team.

The boys were up next with Matthew Torres, Brock Morris, Josh Rasmussen and Jack Christensen taking fourth with a time of 4:42.97.

The Dinos girls’ team took first place at the meet with a total of 229 points. The boys had a total of 141 points, earning them third place.

The Dinos will again be at home this Thursday for the region competition.
