The Lady Dinos and Rams competed in an intense match on Tuesday night in Price. The energy in the arena was high for the home team but it was South Sevier that was able to deliver the first blow. The Lady Rams took an extremely close first set 25-23.
Carbon came back in the second with a 25-18 win to tie it at one. The Lady Dinos were unable to string two sets together, however, and lost the crucial third set 25-20. With their backs against the wall, Carbon stood tough and won 25-20 to force a fifth and final set.
In the fifth set, Carbon had a 13-10 lead and only needed two more points for the victory. The Lady Dinos faltered late, giving up a 5-0 run to lose 15-13. They struggled all night to receive South Sevier’s Leah Torgersen’s serves and it was Torgersen who led the Lady Rams on their comeback. She capped it off with an ace that fell right between two Carbon players to seal the Rams’ victory.
Five different players had over 20 digs in the match for Carbon, including Gracie Salas (28), Katie Jones (26), Abbie Saccamanno (25), Emma Christensen (23) and Makenna Blanc (22). Blanc also did a good job facilitating the offense with 38 assists. Emma Christensen had a team-high 18 kills while Diana Morley and Sophie Noyes each had three blocks for the Lady Dinos.
Carbon (7-3, 0-1 Region 12) has a big game coming up on Thursday as it travels to Castle Dale to take on the Lady Spartans (5-6, 0-2 Region 12). With both teams still looking for their first win the region, there is no doubt that they will bring some extra sauce to the heated rivalry.
