The Spartans welcomed the Dinos in for their first of many meetings on the new baseball field Tuesday afternoon. Carbon struck first with two runs in the second inning. The Dinos continued to stack up hits and eventually went up 4-0 in the fifth. Emery had its chances with eight hits in the game, but went 0-8 with runners in scoring position. In the sixth, Carbon put the game away with five more runs and went on to win 11-0.

Keaton Rich went 2-3 with a double while Rylan Hart and Jordan Fossat each went 2-5 (the latter recorded a triple). Although there was traffic on the bases, Jacob Vasquez always came through with a big pitch in critical moments. He completed the shutout with four strikeouts. For Emery, Ty Stilson led the way at the plate going 2-4, while Jace Magnum and Oakley Alton each hit a double.

The teams then regrouped and prepared for the second game. In the bottom of the first, Emery did would accomplish what it failed to accomplish in Game 1, get a hit with a runner in scoring position. Alton’s RBI single brought the first run home of the contest, but right fielder Dallyn Oneil and Jordan Fossat executed a perfect relay throw to cut down Magnum, who was trying to score from second.

Two innings later, Rylan Hart hit a two-out RBI double to tie it all back up at one. Emery went back out in front in the bottom half with a run of its own. Carbon wasted no time, plating two in the top of the fourth to retake the lead. Then came the Spartans with a two-out rally which resulted in four runs to make it 6-3. The Dinos got one back in the fifth, but trailed by two with two innings remaining. Much like the first game, Carbon continued to grind out good at-bats which led to a five-run sixth inning. Emery would pull within one in the bottom half, but the Dinos put the game out of reach with another three runs in the seventh. Carbon went on to take the back-and-forth finale 12-8.

Vasquez continued his impressive day with a 4-4 showing, while Hart went 3-5 with a double and three RBIs. James Castro came off the bench and went 2-2 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored meanwhile Jordan Fossat finished 2-4 with two doubles and an RBI. On the mound, Beau Vea picked up the win, lasting five innings and giving up three earned runs. Keaton Rich was awarded the two-frame save as he held Emery hitless. The Spartans did most of their damage with the heart of the order. Gannon Ward went 3-4 with a double and two RBIs while Magnum and Alton each added two ribbies apiece. Meanwhile, Ty and Wade Stilson finished 2-3 with three runs scored.

The series finale between these two teams has been moved to Thursday afternoon at 3:30. Be sure to tune into ETV Channel 10 and online at etvnews.com/livesports to catch all the action.
