Last week’s tough loss to Richfield appeared to have no negative impact on Carbon as they quickly and decisively handled Juab in a region matchup on Tuesday evening. The Dinos used a steady offensive attack, consistent defense and capitalized on a number of Wasp errors to pick up the win.
In the first set the two teams traded points. Carbon was finally able to pull ahead gaining a five-point lead. Juab was unable to match the Dino offense and Carbon came out on top with a 25-21 first set victory.
Carbon came out strong in the second set with a six-point run. Juab, trailing by five points at that time, was never able to gain back the momentum and dropped the second set 20-25.
The third and final set of the match was similar to the first two, Carbon came out fighting on their home court and Juab was unable to match their offense. Carbon took the third set 25-19, winning the match 3-0.
Senior outside hitter Beth Child led the match with seven kills, followed by seniors Jordan Scoggins and Taylor Oliver who both contributed six kills apiece. Oliver had an outstanding showing on Tuesday night with six service aces and five digs to go along with her six kills. The Dino offense was led by setter Lauren Rice who put up 26 assists on the night.
The win improves Carbon to a 1-2 region record on the young season. The Dinos remain at home for a Thursday evening region matchup against North Sanpete at 6:30 p.m. This match can be viewed live on ETV Channel 6.
