Miranda Averett scored a game-high 18 points Friday and Carbon held Ogden to single-digit points in two of four quarters en route to a decisive 56-35 victory in the first round of the 3A Playoffs.

The Dinos jumped out to an early 11-1 lead in the first quarter and led going into halftime 29-18. Carbon pushed that lead to 20 at the end of three.

Head Coach Ted Bianco’s mindset was simple.

“We wanted a win and that’s what we got,” he said. “We played good defense the whole night and did a good job of scoring.”

Rachel Scoggins chipped in 13 points and Amanda Freestone netted 10. In all, nine Dinos registered at least one point.

Carbon will now travel to Utah’s Dixie for the second round of the 3A Playoffs. The Dinos will play Judge Memorial Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Dixie Center in St. George. Judge beat Cedar in overtime 47-41 to advance.
