Castle Dale resident Holly Huntington Hansen was presented with an outstanding teacher award Thursday evening.
Hansen was raised in Castle Dale and attended school in the Emery County School District. She teaches third grade as a dual immersion teacher at J.R. Smith Elementary in Heber City. Hansen is the daughter of Dickson and Geniel Huntington and is married to Ross Hansen. Her family, including her husband, are all native to the area.
“Holly is the light in the lives of our students,” Holly’s principal My Brown said. “She radiates a sense of purpose and enthusiasm that is contagious.
“She is a gifted teacher who finds clever ways to teach her students so that they truly understand the curriculum,” Brown continued. “She cares deeply about her students and they love and respect her in return. Holly is incredibly perceptive at discerning the needs of her students. If a student needs the curriculum adapted to meet their unique needs, she does it. She celebrates every success in the lives of her students.”
Hansen was presented with the award by Wasatch County School District Superintendent Terry E. Shoemaker at the 14th Annual Ace Awards Recognition Night.
“I love teaching because I find joy in discovering and exploring with my students,” Hansen explained. “I love it because I see knowledge opening new possibilities for them. I love it because I can see the light illuminate in the eyes of a student that knows they just got it. Most of all I love it because I have the opportunity to glimpse into the hearts of my students and cherish each of their unique personalities.”
