A new program at Castleview Hospital aims to assist those struggling with opioid use disorder. Representatives from the hospital took time to speak on the Bridge Program at the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce’s monthly luncheon last week.

The Bridge Program is the first rural hospital program available to those suffering from opioid use disorder (OUD). Jennifer Colosimo of Castleview Hospital explained that the program is made possible by grant funding. The two-year grant will allow the hospital’s emergency department to assist those struggling with OUD.

“The program offers individuals the opportunity to walk into the Castleview Emergency Department and get assistance with a short-term supply of Suboxone that will reduce the urge to use, as well as being connected to appropriate outpatient care that will help support recovery,” the hospital shared.

After visiting the emergency room and receiving a short term-supply of Suboxone, patients will be referred to a provider for further treatment. From there, patients will be connected to additional community resources and support. The patient will be overseen for six months through the program before becoming connected to long-term resources for sobriety.

Individuals that visit the Castleview Emergency Department with opioid use disorder can be assessed for the Bridge Program. The hospital representatives stressed that individuals must first be seen through the emergency department to be considered for the program. If the program is not a good fit, the individual may be considered for StepOne Service (a hospital-based acute withdrawal management service) or receive assistance in placement at another treatment program.

Colosimo said that those that are uninsured or underinsured should not dismiss the program, as funding is available for these individuals. While the Bridge Program does accept insurance, grant funding has been set aside to help those who are uninsured or underinsured. Even those with a high deductible could receive financial assistance for the program.

Currently, the Bridge Program is only available to those ages 18 and older. Those with questions regarding the program should call (435) 650-0028 for more information.
