In July of 2018, it was announced that a new option for recycling had made its way to Carbon County.
Recyclops is a curbside recycling company that happily picks up your metal, paper, plastic and cardboard for a small monthly, or yearly fee. Just $10 per month or $110 per year will cover the services provided. Pickup for this recycling program takes place every two weeks.
In light of Earth Day, on April 22, Ryan Smith of Recyclops shared some ideas on recycling as well as background and data information. “We all understand recycling is significant and saves the planet, but it’s important to understand how it makes an impact. Aluminum in particular requires 96 percent less energy to make from recycled cans as opposed to process them from bauxite. In contrast, recycled glass was reported to use only 21 percent less energy. That’s a small number but it still comes out ahead.”
Smith acknowledged that recycling options has been historically limited in the area, particularly in Emery County. With this is mind, Recyclops is working tirelessly to bring their services to Emery County and building their foothold in Carbon County. In conjunction with that announcement, there is a major need of community support to make this happen. In Emery County this support can, largely, come in the form of pre-signups; but everyone can tell their neighbors and friends.
“On Earth Day, it’s important to remember that we only have one Earth and none of us want to see it covered in trash and full of pollution,” Smith stated. “Recycling is a small thing that each of us can do to make a difference.”
