Carbon High School held the Class of 2011 graduation ceremonies at the Bunnell-Dmitrich Athletic Center on the Utah State University – College of Eastern Utah campus Thursday.
The Symphonic Band provided the music for the processional, playing “Pomp and Circumstance No 1” for more than twenty minuets as graduates took their seats.
Retiring choir director Tony Pinedo set the mood with an amazing performance of the “Star Spangled Banner.”
The music continued between speeches. Mark Swink, Sarah Baker, Derek Quinton, and Caitlin Patterson sang a touching rendition of the Goo Goo Dolls “Before It’s Too Late,” the graduation theme song.
The Drumline, Symphonic Band, Carbon Vocal Jazz, and Jazz Band also provided stirring pieces.
Valedictorian Lydia Jeppson led a host of student speakers. Michael Peters, Tia Pappas, Hayden Basinger, and Colin Moynier also spoke.
Local entrepreneur Tony Basso also spoke to the graduates and invited them to set a goal and make plans in their lives. He also told them to each bring an idea or anything that would help give back to the community.
