The students at Cleveland Elementary honored veterans during their Veterans Day program on Monday.

The program opened with a flag ceremony and the singing of the National Anthem. Emery High School student body president Kayden Parkins then spoke about remembering veterans and the sacrifices they made for everyone’s freedom.

He talked about how Veterans Day came to be a national holiday and quoted a portion of a speech from President Obama. He encouraged the students to recognize and appreciate veterans and soldiers for all they gave and lost in the name of freedom.

Many of the students read their thoughts about freedom and what it means to them. Others wrote about the sacrifices of soldiers and veterans.

The program ended with a slideshow presentation and honoring the veterans in attendance with cards that were made by students.
