Though January is known for its blustery temperatures, that did not deter the city of Helper from hosting its monthly First Friday event on Jan. 4.

Those that joined in on the event, deemed Rockin’ in the New Year, were treated to an indoor music festival and gallery stroll. Businesses and galleries throughout the city’s main street opened their doors and welcomed attendees to enjoy a large array of live music, refreshments and more.

First Friday mugs and stickers were for sale during the event, Crepe Expectations was parked on the street offering delicious treats and Three Little Llamas played host to a kids’ station for tambourine making.

As each business or gallery that was open for the evening had live entertainment, the event prompted the community to choose their favorite musician for a prize. More than eight artists were featured in the evening and in the end, the Jeff Keele Band was chosen as the winner and awarded $50.

The next First Friday event is slated for Feb. 1 and will feature the Chinese New Year, Year of the Pig. The festivities are set to begin, as always, at 6 p.m.
