On Thursday afternoon, the first grade students at Creekview Elementary School participated in a particularly festive STEM activity: building their very own elf trap.
The project began inside the classroom where the children were instructed to follow steps of asking, imagining, planning and then creating. Armed with boxes and gathering in a singular room, the teachers handed out pipe cleaners, wrapping paper, ornaments, garland and more. The students then got to work on their traps.
One group demonstrated that their bag of candy tied to their trap would surely draw in the elf. Once the traps were completed, the students were then able to test them. As part of the STEM process, if the traps weren’t successful, the children were then instructed to improvise and try again.
