Both the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams at Carbon High School picked up a couple of wins over the weekend.
The Lady Dinos won two of three games played in the Fruita, Colo. Tournament, earning wins against Grand Junction and Central high schools before falling to host Fruita, 69-50, for their only loss of the season so far.
The boys played a pair of contests against fellow 3A members Stansbury and Grantsville, notching back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
Lindsey Blanc led the Lady Dinos in scoring in each game, highlighted by a 15-point performance in a 61-23 thrashing of Central, Colo. Kelsey Sorensen pitched in nine points, 10 boards and eight steals for a near triple double.
Both combined for 15 points in a hard-fought 36-28 win over Grand Junction to kick off the tourney on Thursday. The Lady Dinos ran out of steam in the fourth quarter on Saturday against Fruita, down only one, 43-42, entering the final quarter where Fruita outscored Carbon 26-8 for the lopsided win. Cyene Bigelow had 10 points in the game while Sorensen had eight points, six rebounds and four assists.
Kyle Quinton had 21 points and seven rebounds to lead Carbon to a 45-42 win over the Stallions Friday night in Price. Jamin Jensen was next with eight points. The Dinos held off a hard-charging Stansbury team in the fourth to earn the victory.
Carbon then traveled to Grantsville on Saturday night seeking its first winning streak. Jensen hits three three-pointers in the game en route to a game-high 25 points. He also had six boards and three steals. Quinton had 10 points in the game as well. Gage Daugherty hit two threes and ended with nine points.
Both teams will be in action Wednesday night, with the Lady Dinos (7-1, 0-0 Region 12) hosting 4A Spanish Fork. The boys (3-4, 0-0 Region 12) will be on the road in Roosevelt to take on the Union Cougars.
