The Carbon Dinos once again dominated the course on Thursday, notching a first place finish at North Sanpete’s home course.
The Dinos ran away with first place, finishing 26 strokes ahead of host North Sanpete and 25 strokes ahead of their finish last year on the course.
“The played extremely well,” head coach Tom King said. “I am very, very, very pleased with them.”
The tournament saw Carbon end with 304 on the day while North Sanpete finished with 330. Canyon View and Richfield were just behind the hosting team with 331 and 334, respectively. Juab finished with 379.
The low round of the day was hit by Ryker Smith with 69, three under par. Kayden Alderson was next for the Dinos with 75, followed by Ryan Gagon with 78. Joey Penovich rounded out the scoring for Carbon with 82. Freshman Carson Martinez made his debut in the varsity league, hitting 93. Tyler Moynier also competed for the team, notching 97.
“I am just so proud of them this week,” King said.
The team will next travel for a region tournament on Sept. 17. While the Dinos have a steady lead in Region 12, King explained that is no reason not strive for improvement.
“We have a solid top four, but we have to work on chipping and putting, which costs some of the kids,” he explained. “They built their lead up a bit but that doesn’t matter. They still need to play good golf.”
Juab will host the tournament this week.
