It was a career night for junior Kyle Quinton on Tuesday against the visiting Canyon View Falcons. The forward notched 21 points in the game despite Carbon losing the tight contest 75-69 in the Region 12 opener for both teams.
Peyton Fausett scored the first four points for the Dinos. He would go on to score eight of his 10 points in the quarter. Canyon View kept a small lead on the Dinos for much of the period before Chase Morgan nailed a three with 40 seconds left to give Carbon its first lead, 19-17 to end the quarter.
Hot shooting in the second helped the Falcons to a nine-point lead (40-31), its largest of the game, late in the period before Fausett scored his final bucket of the game and Mitch Olson hit a three from 65 feet at the halftime buzzer (watch in the highlights below) to cut the Canyon View lead to four, 40-36.
In a back-and-forth third, Quinton came on, scoring seven in the period, including a three-point play at the four-minute mark that cut a seven-point Falcon lead to four, 49-45. Another Quinton bucket on the Dinos next possession cut the lead to two, giving the junior 19 for the game. Canyon View then went on a 7-2 run at the end of the quarter before Jamin Jensen hit a leaner from 12 feet and followed that with a three on the following possession to cut the Falcon lead to just four, 58-54, at the end of the quarter.
Jensen opened the fourth with another basket to get Carbon within two and a Gage Daugherty three, his only points of the game, at 5:45 tied the score at 61. After another tie at 63, Canyon View stayed just ahead of the Dinos to earn the win.
Behind Quinton’s 21 and Fausett’s 10, Jensen poured in 12, which was a career-high. Kasey Moynier and Mitch Olson chipped in eight and seven points, respectively.
