Senior Kyle Quinton scored a career-high 27 points in the Carbon Dinos’ 64-61 win over 4A Spanish Fork Wednesday night in Price.
The Dinos held a commanding 12-point lead going into the fourth quarter before having to battle back after the Dons roared back to take a the lead. Tough defense from Quinton on one of Spanish Fork’s final offensive possessions and two free throws by Brandon Palacios with 10.1 seconds left sealed the game for Carbon. Palacios chipped in a career-best 11 points in the contest.
After Quinton got Carbon on the board in the first quarter the Dons responded with a 7-0 run over the next two minutes. The Dinos returned the favor with a 11-0 run and ended the quarter with a 17-12 advantage.
Spanish Fork cut the deficit in the second and both teams traded buckets for the bulk of the quarter, which ended in a 29-28 Carbon advantage at the half. Quinton scored 14 of his 27 by halftime.
Another stellar quarter from Quinton and key buckets by Ty Moynier and Gage Daugherty helped the Dinos to a 51-39 lead by the end of the third.
The Dons whittled the Carbon lead methodically, capped off by a three pointer with just under a minute to play to give Spanish Fork the 61-60 lead. Daugherty and Palacios went 4-4 from the free throw line in the final minute to seal the Dino victory.
Carbon enters the Christmas break with a 5-5 record. The team will have a week off before the traveling to Cedar City to take part in the Steve Hodson Cancer Classic. The Dinos will square off against Cedar, Snow Canyon and Providence Hall on consecutive days.
