On Saturday morning Sherill Cox, chair of local Emery County domestic violence coalition, put on a domestic violence awareness event at the Emery County Recreation Center in Castle Dale.

The event featured a 5K run from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., followed by Zumba from 10 to 11. A self-defense class from 11 to noon wrapped up the event. Susan Hyde from Adult Probation and Parol and Tana Allred from the Utah Highway Patrol taught those in attendance about rape aggression.

Manicures were offered during these activities by the USU Eastern cosmetology department. Business booths sold items and Cherry on Top prepared fruit crepes and smoothies for attendees.

Miss Emery County Brittany Fortner had pledges for the ladies to sign, which stated that domestic violence is real and if you see it, to report it.

The cost for the event was $5 per person or $20 for a group of five.
