Mont Harmon Junior High ninth grade family and community science students participated in a dutch oven cook-off on Tuesday.
Dishes ranged from tater tot casserole, lasagna, potatoes, and burritos, to cheesecake, brownies, cobbler and pineapple upside-down cake. For most of the participants, this was their first time cooking in a dutch oven.
Students prepared, cooked and served the dishes to a panel of judges. Participants were then scored on taste, presentation, recipe and cleanup. Following the judging process, students were allowed to sell their dishes to teachers and students during lunch. Profits made from the sales were kept by the cooks.
Similar cook-offs are conducted at the end of each school year for ninth grade students who participate in the FACS classes at Mont Harmon.
