Stellar performances by Priscila Santos and Chase Flint led their respective USU Eastern basketball teams to a combined record of 3-0 Friday and Saturday.
Santos, a guard from Sao Paulo, Brazil scored 42 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for the Lady Eagles in their 84-69 win over the Utah All Stars. She was helped by teammate Hailee Parry, who added 12 points.
Flint put up two triple-doubles, with 15 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists on Friday night, and 12 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists on Saturday.
The Men’s team rode Flint’s first triple-double to an 80 -72 win against the Southern Colorado Kings Friday night. Dashaun Wiggins added 23 points, and Neveij Walters had 19.
About Friday night’s game, Coach Brian Edelstein said, “We did a good job consistently running, but we have to got to be better defensively and better with [making] adjustments [during] the game.”
The only drawback in the Eagle’s win over the Kings was what Edelstein called an “appalling” performance at the free throw line. The team hit only one of their 13 attempts in the first half.
Flint’s second triple-double came against Atwater Select on Saturday night.
Having faced the Kings only a couple of hours before, the team was no match for the Eagles, who pummeled the visitors 110-59.
Perimeter shooting and steady defense helped USU Eastern to an easy win. “ We shot better from the three,” said Edelstein. “We took good open shots. We also had the [right] mindset to guard defensively for [the entire game].”
Bolstering Flint’s triple-double Saturday were teammates McKay LaSalle, who scored 21 points, and Dashaun Wiggins, who put up 20.
Both of Saturday’s games can be seen on ETV 10.
