Eastern Drops Conference Opener to CSI

The USU Eastern women’s basketball team opened up conference play against #7 ranked College of Southern Idaho (CSI) on Saturday in Twin Falls, Idaho. Unfortunately, the Lady Eagles weren’t able to get the win as they fell 67-44.

The Lady Eagles started the game strong, but quickly lost the lead. CSI outscored USU Eastern in the first three quarters, even though USUE was able to outscore CSI in the fourth quarter 19-14.

The Lady Eagles struggled offensively against CSI, only scoring 44 points and shooting 30% from the field. CSI forced 25 turnovers, resulting in 29 points.

Baylee Ueligitone was a spark off of the bench and scored 11 points to go along with two steals. Mac Michael and Brooklyn Palmer each added seven points. Annie StinarBrinlee McRae and Janel Blazzard each had four points. Olivia Nielson led the team in assists with four.

The Lady Eagles out rebounded CSI 40-36. Brooklyn Palmer led rebounding with 11 boards. Brinlee McRae grabbed five rebounds while Hailey Meek and Maci Wall each had four. The Lady Eagles were able to defend CSI’s transition well as they only allowed 11 fast break points for a team that averages over 20.

The USU Eastern women will continue conference play on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 1 p.m. against Salt Lake City Community College. The game will be held at the BDAC in Price.
