Volunteer efforts culminated over the weekend as the painting of the “EC” in East Carbon was completed just in time for the annual Community Daze celebration.

Under the leadership of Don Logston, a group of old East Carbon Vikings came together to make the project a reality. Over 50 volunteers met at the Sunnyside Park on Saturday morning donning work boots, prepared to make the trek up the mountain to assist in the painting. A steep and rocky climb was required to reach the site, and all supplies were manually carried up by volunteers.

“I sincerely and humbly thank each and every one of you for donating your time, muscle, money, drinks, snacks, tools, materials, ATVs, trucks and so on,” Logston said. “Without you, our project could not have been completed. Absolutely nothing about it was easy, but your resolve, dedication, toughness and pride prevailed.”

Once arriving at the home of the EC, it took only two hours for the volunteers to paint. Each letter is proudly on displaying, measuring 120’ x 36’ x 8’.

The EC was originally painted 50 years ago by the East Carbon Vikings Class of ‘68, and was last painted nearly seven years ago. The painting on Saturday brought the community together now just for labor, but also planning and donations.

“Thank you to the landowners for granting us permission: Lavada LLC, (Todd Hinkins), the McFarland family and EC City as well,” Logston said. “Thank you to everyone who helped, without you, we couldn’t have done it.”
