Emery High School hosted the annual spring band dual on Wednesday evening. The Emery High symphonic band, along with combined sixth grade bands from Castle Dale, Cottonwood and Ferron elementaries, each played three pieces to a rather large crowd.
Band director Mr. Carroll commented the combined sixth grade bands were one of the largest he has ever had. Some of the numbers performed were “Advance of the Roman Legions” by Michael Story, “Be Still, My Soul” arranged by Robert W. Smith and a concluding piece named “Adrenaline Rush” by Rob Foster. The percussion section complimented the bands in the final selection.
The high school symphonic band favored the audience with “The Gallant Seventh” by Sousa, edited by John R. Bourgeois, “On a Hymn Song of Philip Bliss” by David R. Holsinger and “Fiera Winds” by Ed Huckeby.
An upcoming event for the high school band includes a concert in the park on May 23 at 6 p.m. in the pavilion by the rodeo grounds in Castle Dale. At this concert, the Emery High School band will be accompanied by the Emery County Community Band.
