There was more than just bragging rights on the table for the Emery and Carbon on Thursday afternoon. The winner of the contest was guaranteed no worse than second in region. It marked the last game of the regular season, hence it was the team’s last chance to solidify their playoff seeding. On top of that, the Lady Dinos defeated the Lady Spartans in the previous meeting, and Emery was looking for payback.
Neither team could break through in the first half, forcing a nil, nil tie at the break. That was not the case in the second half as each team found the back of the net. Kiralyn Olsen scored for Emery as did Ryan Brady for the Dinos. After two periods, the teams were locked up at one goal apiece.
The stalemate continued though both periods of overtime as the defenses held tough. Eventually, a shootout was required to determine a winner. Emery prevailed over its rival in the shoutout 3-1 for the win. With the victory, the Spartans also clinched second place in the region.
Playoff brackets will be released in the coming days.
