On cold and rainy afternoon in Castle Dale, the Union Cougars slipped by the Emery Spartans in a game dominated by pitching. The 1-0 loss was Emery’s second of the season.

Zach Jorgensen struck out a season-high 11 batters in the game, giving up just four hits and one earned run for the loss. The Spartans managed just five hits in the game, three off the bat of Race Nielsen and two from Logan Labrum.

Emery’s best chance to score was in the bottom of the sixth when it loaded the bases with just one out. Union worked out of the jam to preserve the lead, ultimately leading to the win.

Emery (7-2, 0-0 2A East) will travel to Delta (3-6, 1-1 2A Central) on Friday for a matchup with the Rabbits.
