Emery welcomed the Payson Lions into town on Tuesday night for a non-region game in the Spartan Center.
The Lady Spartans immediately attacked the Lady Lions with a full court press to open the game. Payson proved unfit to handle the immense pressure put on by Emery as the Lady Spartans leaped out to a 14-0 lead. Up 22-6 after one quarter, Emery kept on the gas pedal to increase their lead to 47-19 at the half. The Lions were outmatched and out hustled in the game and fell 72-40.
Bailey Huggard was named Maxpreps’ Player of the Game and went a perfect 9-9 on the night with a season-high 18 points and six steals. Megan Jensen scored 12 points and pulled down 8 rebounds while Kacelyn Toomer added 11 points. Emery had 21 steals in the game with many of them coming by means of their full court press.
The win sets the stage for a Game of the Unbeatens on Friday when Emery (8-0, 0-0, Region 15) hosts North Summit (8-0, 0-0 Region 16). The game will be streamed live on ETV Channel 10 and online here.
