The Emery High Theatre Department will present its first musical of the school year, “Legally Blonde The Musical JR.,” on Nov. 9, 10 and at the Emery High auditorium at 7 p.m. each evening. Admission is $5 for adults and $4 for students. Children five and under are free though babies and very small children may not enjoy the show.
Based on the award-winning Broadway musical and the smash hit motion picture, “Legally Blonde The Musical JR.” is a fabulously fun journey of self-empowerment and expanding horizons. The show’s instantly recognizable songs are filled with humor, wit and sass, leaving cast members and audiences alike seeing pink!
“Legally Blonde JR.” follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes, snobbery and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. When Elle’s college boyfriend, Warner, dumps her and heads to Harvard Law School, claiming she’s not “serious” enough, Elle takes matters into her own hands, crafting a showy song-and-dance personal essay and charming her way into law school. Befriending classmate, Emmett, and spunky hairdresser, Paulette, along the way, Elle finds that books and looks aren’t mutually exclusive. As Elle begins outsmarting her peers, she realizes that law may be her natural calling after all.
“Legally Blonde JR.” features large and energetic cast of 30 students and is a fun romp for people of all ages. The designation JR. at the end of the title indicates that though the movie was rated PG13 this version of the play is “G” rated and is appropriate for young people.
Elle is played by Brooklyn Potter and Warner by David White. Others in the cast include Ethan Anderson as Emmett, Cambrie Bennett as Brooke Windham, Abby Blackwell as Paulette, Justine Jackson as Vivenne Kensington, Jonathan Seely as Dewey, and Parker Stilson as Professor Callahan.
Others include Allen Durrant, Kaylee Durrant, Taylor Durrant, MaKenna Bennett, September Fausett, Haley Guymon, Megan Hess, Kelsey Hulse, Tia Hulse, Aylin Kissebayeva, Ashly Leffler, Dayton Lytle, Madison McCandless, Anthony Reid, Brynne Urie, Sebastian Vieira, Jordynn Wolford, Jace Collard, Cally Cordner, Kaydee Deto, and Randy Dixon.
While getting ready for “Legally Blonde,” the Emery High Theatre department is also preparing for a second musical, “ELF the Musical,” which will be presented on Dec. 18, 19 and 20.
“Legally Blonde the Musical JR.” will be Neal Peacock’s 188th play of his career and his 49th musical.
