The Spartans grabbed a lead in the first quarter of Tuesday’s match against Richfield and never let go, fighting to a 60-52 nonregion win to open up the season.
Spartans Koby Butler and Bowdie Jacobson shone during the faceoff, with Butler leading the team with a total of 23 points and a single three-point shot. Jacobson led the team with three-pointers, netting three en route to his total 18 points for the Black and Gold.
Emery’s 12-8 first-quarter lead continued to include 14 and 17 points for the home team in the second and third quarters, respectively.
Emery’s next action will take place next Friday as the team travels to Richfield to face off against Waterford in the 3A-2A preview, after which the Spartans will face off against South Sevier the next day.
