Ridge Nielson turned in another stellar Emery Spartan pitching performance against the South Sevier Rams in the team’s 4-2 win on Tuesday in Monroe.
Nielson pitched the second-straight complete game for the Spartans and struck out eight to notch his second win of the season. Mark Debry nailed a two-run double in the sixth inning to give his team a 3-0 lead going into the seventh. He hit two doubles in the game. The Rams scored two in the bottom of the seventh to make it interesting, but the Spartans were able to hold on to earn their Region 15-leading seventh win. Emery beat the Rams 3-2 on Friday behind a complete game one-hitter from Dillon Wilstead.
Emery (10-2, 7-0 Region 15) will take a break from region action with a game against 3A Uintah (7-2, 0-0 Region 10) on Wednesday in Vernal. The Spartans will look to avenge one of their two losses on the year, which came against the Utes on March 7. Uintah beat Emery 8-2. Emery will then host Monticello and Carbon next week on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.
