Running backs Marco Mota and David Dyer rushed for five combined touchdowns Friday night in Emery’s opening-round thumping of Kanab en route to a 61-30 blowout at Spartan Stadium in Castle Dale.

Mota found the endzone two times, while Dyer rushed for three touchdowns of his own. Jared Shakespeare and Kayden Fiechko also notched rushing touchdowns in the win. Quarterback Spencer Labrum hooked up with Bailey Faimalo and Tanner Lake for the remaining two touchdowns in the game. Faimalo’s 38-yard reception came as time expired going into halftime.

Mota gained 144 yards on the ground and Dyer added 120 to the team’s total.

Emery now faces its toughest opponent on the season in a 2A Quarterfinal matchup with unbeaten San Juan on either Friday or Saturday. Exact time and date has yet to be determined. The Broncos haveВ yieldedВ just 33 total points on defense during the regular season. The two teams haven’t played each other since a 34-13 San Juan win on September 1, 2000. The Broncos have a combined record of 43-3 since 2008 and have won two championships during that span.
