Emery Spartans Hosts Darrel Gardner Invitational *Photo Gallery*

The Carbon Dinos and Emery Spartans finished third and fourth, respectively, Tuesday in the Darrel Gardner Invitational, hosted annually by Emery High School.

Carbon finished with 194.5 points and Emery was right behind with 189. Pinnacle finished in 14th place as well.

Carbon’s Shannon Baker continues to showcase her multi dimensionality, taking first in the 200 and 400 meters. She also finished second in the 100 meters.

Derek Hillam also took home top honors in the long jump with a 21-05.50 jump. Carter Fausett was right behind in second place in the event.

The Carbon girls’ 4×100 team of Harley Migliori, Shannon Baker, Annamaria Cartwright and Mikelle Monson took home top honors as well.

For Emery, Tiana Jensen won the 100-meter hurdles, nearly a half second in front of second place.

Braiden Ivie dominated, again, the 100 and 200 meters, winning both handily. He also anchored the boys’ 4×100 team with Daeden Behling, Jaymes Bowman and Treven Brazier for the first place finish.

Tayden Nielson took home a first place finish in the 800 meters, over two seconds ahead of second place.

Drake Hoffman crushed the discus event, throwing over 12 feet further than teammate Marquies Giroux, who finished in second. Hoffman also placed first in the shot put.

The Dinos also had 12 other athletes finish in either second or third positions at the meet. Emery had nine such athletes place.

Pinnacle scored four points in the meet, with its boys’ and girls’ sprint medley teams each finishing in eight place.

Carbon will next participate in the Blue Mountain Invitational on Saturday in Blanding. Emery will have a weekend off, next taking part in a meet at Copper Hills on March 31.
